Hello, my name is Andrea Price and I met you and Tracey and your daughter as well in San Diego. As a Matter of fact, Dr. Clark did my surgery immediately prior to yours at 7:00 am. I think you may remember me because I was the only African American person having surgery that week. Tracey gave me your web address after the fitness class. Just thought I would compare experiences with you. Fortunately, I didn't have a post op infection as you did and returned to my demanding job as an OB/GYN physician just two weeks after surgery (in retrospect maybe a little too soon). I was eating mostly soups and tolerating small amounts of soft protein such as tuna salad.
Unfortunately, about 3 weeks post op I suddenly  began vomiting frequently. About the only thing I could tolerate was yogurt and warm clear liquids. After 2 weeks of this I became quite dehydrated and spent an afternoon in the hospital getting IV hydration. I felt better temporarily, but the vomiting got progressively worse and eventually I couldn't even keep down clear liquids. I was weak and dizzy and couldn't seem to get my doctors to understand the gravity of my situation. They just said I didn't look that dehydrated. I all but stopped making urine and my kidneys began to hurt.
Knowing I was probably in early renal failure from dehydration, I insisted something be done and got an upper GI which showed a very narrow opening with free reflux (meaning things were going up into my stomach and esphagous instead of down like they should). Medications to block acid prodution and increase gut motility didn't help, so a scope of my stomach was performed under IV sedation (EGD). They found the opening between my stomach and small bowel was pinpoint size and nothing could get through. They used a ballon to dialate the opening and I stayed in the hospital overnight for IV hydration. After this I immediately improved 100%. It took about 3 weeks to get all my energy back and I still vomit frequently, but nothing like before. I don't dump sweets (yes I have cheated too), but seem to be quite lactose intolerant and anything heavily spiced won't stay down. I have lost
58 lbs to date and get coplimented daily. Unfortuntely I don't have any photos to share. I don't have much of an appetite and have lost much of my desire to eat. At times I must force myself. I don't feel my stomach has really strechted at all so I am not very concerrned about gaining over the holidays, because I can't take in enough for that. I am very pleased with my progress and despite the complications I believe it is one of the best decisions I ever made.
Thank you for the time and effort you put into your web site. May God continue to bless you in your weight loss efforts. You may reply to <babydoc1@hotmail.com>. Hope to hear from you.

How are you feeling today?  Each day gets a little better doesn't it.  Tired of jello and broth yet?  Three more days and you can have an egg!  The first egg was good and I remember being surprised how I was not hungry.  My sister, Leslie had her surgery Tuesday, but still is in the hospital, because she started to accumulate fluid in her lungs and chest cavity.  She may get out tomorrow.

Thanks again.

Dear Aaron,

Oy! I waited with anticipation today to hear more news from your daily log.
I just  read the latest. The main thing is that you came through safe and sound. Also you are fortunate to be such a strong person so you will beat the initial discomfort in good time. In the meantime, with every hour that passes, you are that much closer to healing and feeling better. Every hour that passes is another hour 'won' towards recovery.

In case you need anything that a San diego native might be able to help with, I am giving you the number of a special friend of mine. He lives in San Diego and is a real sweetheart. If you or Tracey or Michal need something or want something, you can call him and he will be happy to help. (to give you some background: he is an artist and is now working on designing a store. He was brought up in Hawaii but his family moved to San Diego when he was a teen-ager. He is 32 yrs old. Eccentric in a warm way.)
His work schedule is fairly flexible but he is usually 'out and about' during the day so the best times to get him are between 7:00-9:00 am or after 10:00 pm at night. I will call him tonight to tell him to expect a call. His number is: [s n i p].

In the meantime, wishing you a speedy and comfortable recovery. Sending positive healing thoughts your way!

Linda

Hi Tracey,

My name is Cathy and I met you this afternoon (elevator) when you were picking up your husband to take him to your hotel.  The first couple of days will be a little rough, but each day is a new day and the healing is a little better.  I look at the whole surgery as like being a little pregnant for a few months, not knowing what you can't eat to what you can eat.  But in the end, the weight loss is so quick and you feel so good that you forget how awful you felt the first few days.  My husband has a high pain tolerance, but when he is hurting he hurts and I have to be sensitive to that.  But I don't think men could ever deal with childbirth!

The group support is good and maybe Aaron can find a group up in Montreal
somewhere, if not subscribing to the www.onelist.com works good too.   You just go to that page and request to subsribe to the ossg (obesity surgery support group) and you can request a digest of all the e-mails in one attachment.  It's good for me, because there are many others out there going through the same thing, and we can share our experiences with them.

My older sister Leslie had her surgery yesterday, you will probably meet her next week at the docs office or at the nutriention class.  Try and stay connected with the group you meet with next week.  Tonight we had all come from dinner at a local restaurant with many people my "other sister" had surgery the same week with.  One lady came from Montana and has lost 176 lbs. since November.  She was like a different person.

This is one of the best decisions I made, I hope Aaron will someday feel the
same, it will just take some time.  Good luck to you.

P.S.  I am traveling to Montreal next month, trying to research on some nice hotels near the downtown area.  Are you familiar with the Hotel Du Parc?  It is owned by the Renissance Hotels.  It seems like a nice place in the picture, but I am not sure about the area.  Appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks again,
Cathy Satter

Dear Aaron,

Since I am the "receiver" of Mr. Gewurz's e-mail, I learnt of your upcoming operation.  I know from Vicky that you are now approximately 2 hours away from it.  I want to wish to you all the good luck in the world!!!  I certainly hope that everything will go well for you as I can relate so much to how you feel and your desire to lose weight. I know for a fact how it is hard to live with a body that we don't like and the feeling of "impuissance" for this and all those feelings related.

I will think very strongly of you, will pray for the full success of your operation, wish you well, wish that your health will be OK, that your morale will be great and more so, wish you the success that you are hoping for.

Hi Aaron & Tracy,

Hope this finds you both well and in good spirits.  Have been spending time on your
web site, WOW.  But that can be up for discussion at a later date. The most important thing at the moment is for you Aaron to get through this surgery and Tracy hang in and stay at his side.  As to-day is the sabbath our thoughts and wishes are with you.  I know you will be uncomunicado for the next few days, I will get my information from Zelda & Arnold.  I will leave your secretary alone, as I am sure she will be up to her eye balls in inquireys.  So without sounding redundant Aaron, think good positive thoughts and instruct them in the operating room that they should also have positive thoughts, their is something to that belief system.  Until we hear from you we send you our love and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Love
Edie & Hy

How are you doing?  No, I'm not trying to make you bust your stitches, just put a smile on your face.

How did the surgery go?  How long are you in hospital, and what restrictions have they given you?

Take care, and a speedy recovery.

Good Luck,

Knowing that your computer usually travels with you, I trust that it will receive this message of best wishes for a trouble-free convalescence.  I have examined the pictures of the procedure on your website, and assume that your surgeon is so practiced that he does it quickly and efficiently.
We soon hope to see an Aaron Remer with a diminished appetite and correspondingly reduced waistline.

Glad Diane checked the e-mail...I was thinking about you this week. Read some of the questions asked the doctor and noted his recommendation for no inter-meal
snacks. I think you'll still need some will-power.
Best of luck in the operation. Let us know as soon as it's over.

P.S. Hugs and kisses to  Michal for me

Dear Aaron, thank  you for your letter. I read your operation-log and I noticed that I should let know something that came to my mind while reading the log. You might heard about it from your surgeons, many people wake up with a basic problem to inhale because of the air that was pumped into their belly by the surgeons. I can tell you that I forgot to tell my brother about it and when he had an ulcer operation he couldn't breath and they had to calm him down with shots. When he realized that I knew about it and didn't tell him... he could kill  me. So I'm not taking chances with you (although I think you know about it...). Aaron send regards to Tracy and kisses to Michal. Keep your spirit high and everything will be fine.

I do not know whether they give an immediate answer.
With regards to the training I do suggest that you will use the small device called IMT. If there is an accumulating saliva you can stop clear the saliva and continue for 15 min twice daily. With the coach you need to do only 15 deep inspirations twice daily not 15 minutes.

Shalom Ditza,

I received the "Coach2". Let me know what to do with it.
Unfortunately I can't get a Pulmonary test for at least many weeks.  The nurses just came off strike and everything is backlogged. Perhaps a private lab? Do you know any? Regards Aaron

Dear Aaron;
For the pulmonary function tests try the Mount Sinai hospital. If  you have any problems ask Mr. Joe Rothbart  Tel: 3421440 (I hope the number has not changed) you can tell him that I ask that he will help you. Otherwise talk with Dr. Eli Metouk either at the Montreal General hospital the respiratory division 9348014 or at the chest hospital 8495201 or at the St Mary's hospital. He is a really good pulmonologist and we are very good friends. If you do talk with him you can tell him that I am organizing an international meeting on 14-16th of March 2000 and as soon as I will have the final version of the preliminary program I will contact him.

With regards to the coach you should exhale until you cannot exhale anymore air and then you inhale through the coach slowly until you cannot take any more air in and watch the marked volume that the blue thing goes up to.

Good luck.

Yours Ditza

Dear  Aaron;

I will answer your questions:
1. The difference between pulmonary functions and stress test is that stress test you do an exercise and the response of your heart and breathing, that is the number of breath and the amount of ventilation is monitored in response to the stress. On the other hand the pulmonary function test measures the maximum volume you can take into your lungs as well as the flows (maximum and flow at
various volumes) this test is done at rest and measures only the capacity of your lungs and not your heart. 2. My fax and telephones are: Tel: 972 2 6481901 (home) Fax at home: 970 0 6481902 Tel at work:

Thank you very much for everything

Dear Aaron;
Thanks for the wonderful note on men, I did get a kick out of it.
It defines almost everything. I do hope you will be all right.
Let me hear from you when you have results of the pulmonary functions and if you started to work with the inspiratory muscle trainer. You have enough time to improve and be prepared for the surgery. By the way have you lost any weight? Do you smoke ? If you do, you have to stop at least two week prior to surgery, preferably longer to prevent excessive accumulation of secretions which could lead to the development of pneumonia or other complications after surgery.

Let me hear from you

Take care

Yours

Ditza.

We had news from Arnie and your mother and thank god that everything is going well up till now.
Ari called many times, he also tried to reach Tracey and left a message on her cellular. I sent him the information re his email but he did not understand what to do, so Raynald will come tomorrow and he will phone him to explain the procedure. You sent me a fax adressing to Rabbi Carlebach of 4 pages which I received only the first page, but what I suppose to do with this ? That's it for today.

Best wishes to you and your family,
