Other landscaping
and pond projects
Each fall we drain our fish ponds and clean them. The
fish are harvested and frozen over the winter.
Here you can see Daniel our caretaker managing the drain
pump on the Trout pond. You can also see parts of the
vinyl liner that is exposed below the initial layer of
rocks. Top right is the submersible circulation and waterfall
pump encased in a plastic filtration barrel. There are
also 7 underwater lights to enhance the nighttime beauty
of the fish swimming.
Halfway up our access road we transformed an old swamp
adjoining our neighbours property into a beautiful pond.
No artificial products or liners were introduced. Instead
we added a circulation pump and waterfall to aerate the
water. The water source itself is natural, mainly from
accumulated rainfall and ground seepage. Nature has begun
to reclaim most of the pond. Lately we have built the
trestle of the Manitou
and Northern Railway over the north end of the pond,
traversing the outlet into the forest.
Typical Rainbow Trout from our pond.
